The fact is that after roasting the grains emit a smell reminiscent of coffee, which is most likely enjoyed by some consumers. Unlike coffee, Mugicha does not contain caffeine.

Some Japanese drink this tea during the summer season. It perfectly quenches thirst, and because of the high content of vitamins, it is often drunk instead of water.

Barley tea is best served with Japanese sweets, for example, rice cakes or bean paste. The best way to drink it after a meal, it improves the absorption of food and normalizes metabolism.

How to Prepare Barley Tea

You can prepare the drink in many ways, we will share our recommendations.

Method 1

  • Water temperature: 100 °C / 212 °F.
  • Number of infusions: 1-2.
  • Amount of tea per volume: 1-2 teaspoons per 300 ml / 8.4 oz.
 
  1. Pour tea into the teapot and fill it with boiled water.
  2. The first pouring lasts a few seconds, after which it is necessary to drain the water.
  3. Pour the boiled water again.
  4. Leave for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Drain the resulting infusion and your tea is ready.

 

Method 2

 
  1. In a container of 1 - 1/5 liter, add 2 tablespoons of slightly ground barley.
  2. Fill it with cold water and put into the refrigerator for 6-8 hours.
  3. Drain the resulting infusion and the tea is ready.
